What To Use To Clean Pee Out Of A Carpet And Eliminate Urine Smells

There are a few things that you will need to help you with your quest on getting dried dog pee out of your carpet

The first thing that you will need is a liquid product that will remove that stain. Many people make use of common household supplies to do this. These include things like vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.

And while these things can definitely work, we would recommend something a bit stronger for dried pee. Dried pee is a lot harder to clean out of your carpet than wet pee is, and it needs something a bit more effective.

Vinegar can also be harmful to some carpets, especially if it is not mixed with the correct ratio of water. Using vinegar to remove stains is a longer process than using a cleaning agent, so it might not be ideal for everyone.

The carpet cleaner that we suggest you use is our Urine Stain & Odor Remover. This carpet remover works at a molecular level to penetrate and attack contaminants in the urine. This makes for effective and fast stain removal.

While this cleaning product is predominantly for removing urine stains and odors, it can also be used to clean dog vomit from your carpet and is also your answer if you were wondering how to get dog poop out of your carpet.

We would also recommend using a carpet prespray to help with stain removal and even more so, odor removal.

The other pieces of equipment that you will need to remove dried pet pee from your carpet are a carpet brush, a UV light to help you spot the dried-up pee stains, and a wet-dry vacuum cleaner.

Additional tools that are not completely necessary, but would make the process easier, especially if it is a regular occurrence, are a Rotovac carpet cleaning machine, and a carpet cleaning brush machine.

To sum all of that up, and make an easy list for you to follow when you want to purchase these things, we have listed what you will need below.

How To Get Pee Out Of Your Carpet

Step 1: Use The UV Light To Detect All Of The Pee

Dried pee is a bit harder to detect than wet pee. Depending on the color of the carpet, sometimes you will be able to see it with the naked eye, and sometimes it will be a little more difficult.

Even if you think that you know where the spot is, we would suggest using a UV flashlight to find exactly where the stain is.

You might even be surprised, there might be other dried pee stains that you weren't aware of.

Step 2: Use Your Carpet Cleaner

This is where the Unchained Urine Stain & Odor Remover (USOR) comes in.

First, follow the instructions on the bottle and mix the Unchained USOR with a quantity of water based on the sprayer you will be using.

Saturate the area of dried urine with this mixture and press it into the carpet.

Let it sit for a little while, as it will work to break down the molecules of the dog's urine.

Step 3: Apply A Prespray

The next step is to apply a presray to the Urine Stain And Odor Remover.

But before doing so, take note that the presray also has to be mixed with water. Follow the mixing instructions on the back of the bottle.

Once mixed, spray the presray onto the carpet, and let it sit there for approximately 10 minutes.

Step 4: Mechanically Agitate The Carpet

After the prespray has sat on the carpet for 10 minutes, it is time to mechanically agitate the area.

If you are unsure, “mechanically agitate” is a fancy phrase for loosening any dirt or particles that may be stuck in the carpet fibers. It also makes for better and more successful stain removal.

Mechanical agitation can be done with a brush but is more effective with a subsurface tool, or our Rotovac carpet cleaning machine.

While mechanical agitation is necessary, you also want to be careful not to over-agitate the carpet. If you do, this can cause damage to the carpet in terms of fuzzing and untwisting of the carpet fibers.

This can happen more easily if you use a brush, or you have a wool carpet. This is why our Rotovac is so advantageous. It is very gentle on the carpet, but still strong enough to remove the stain.

Step 5: Flush The Affected Area With A Rinse

After you have mechanically agitated the stained area of the carpet, you must flush it with any one of our carpet rinses. If we were to suggest one, though, it would be our Ultimate All Fiber Rinse.

As with our Urine Stain and Odor Remover, this rinse needs to be mixed with water. There are instructions on the back of the bottle as to what quantities of concentrate and hot water you need to mix depending on the amount of rinse that you need.

Please follow these instructions and measurements when creating your rinse.

It is very important to flush the area of the carpet that you have been working on with a rinse. This is because the rinse is acidic and helps to neutralize the alkaline characteristics of the carpet cleaner you have used.

This ensures that there is no chemical build-up that could create stains of their own. Our rinses, especially the one mentioned above, have synergistic properties with our presprays. This means that the two work wonderfully together to promote the ultimate carpet cleaning formula.

Step 6: Use A Wet-Dry Vacuum Cleaner To Vacuum Up The Remaining Residue

The final step is to use a wet-dry vacuum cleaner to vacuum up any residue, such as liquid or dirt particles, that may remain after the cleaning process. It will also remove any dog hair from your carpet that may have gotten stuck in there, too.

Following all of the above steps on how to get dog pee out of your carpet should leave your carpet fresh and clean afterward.

While there are additional, more natural, methods to remove dried dog urine from your carpet, they have gotten mixed reviews. Too many people have reported back saying that they are ineffective.

This is why we would rather stick to using our products that have been tried and tested, and that we know will work properly and effectively.

There's no hiding the fact that dried dog pee doesn’t only come with a horrible-looking stain, but what is even worse is the awful stench that is almost guaranteed to accompany it.

Using natural methods to get rid of the smell of dried dog pee in carpets is more effective than they are to remove stains. For this reason, we will be talking about how to remove dog urine smells with natural remedies, as well as how to remove it with our products.

While natural remedies are effective in removing dog pee smells from carpets, using our products to do so will probably be more effective.

This is because our products are scented, and not only do they remove the smell of dog urine, but they also leave your carpet smelling better than it did before. So while home remedies do work, our products will most likely give you better results and a fresher smelling carpet.

How To Get The Smell Out Using Our Products

Luckily, each one of our carpet cleaning products that you use in the urine removal process is designed to eliminate odor, too.

Our Unchained Stain and Odor Remover, preprays, and rinses are all scented. The Unchained Stain and Odor remover has a scent called Sweet Breeze, which leaves your carpet smelling beautifully fresh and clean.

When it comes to the presprays and rinses, the most common scent is Sweet Breeze, Citrus, and Cherry Bomb. So the scents can also help determine which carpet presray and rinses you use based on the smell. Just make sure that it is a prespray or rinse that is specifically for carpets.

So, in essence, you don’t have to do anything additional to remove the smell of urine, other than follow the steps that we mentioned above.

Odor removal is a basic part of our products, so it will happen automatically as you complete the stain removal steps.

How To Remove Dog Urine Odor From Carpet Naturally With Home Remedies

The most effective way to remove the smell of dog urine from carpets naturally is by using dishwashing liquid, vinegar, and baking soda. Here are some step-by-step instructions on how to use them.

Step 1: Gather The Necessary Equipment

For this process, you will need the following.

  • Old cloths or paper towels
  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • Baking soda
  • Preferably a wet-dry vacuum.

Once you have all of this, you can start with the odor-removing process.

Step 2: Apply A Diluted Mixture Of Vinegar And Water

Start by diluting the vinegar with some water. This is an important step because pure, concentrated vinegar can cause damage to your carpet.

To dilute the vinegar, mix equal parts of water and vinegar and stir well. Pour or spray this mixture over the carpet and lightly scrub the area. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes, and then blot the spot dry with paper towels.

The vinegar will help to neutralize the smell of the dried dog urine. Since vinegar is acidic, it neutralizes the bacteria in the dog's urine, which will help to offset its odor.

Step 3: Sprinkle Baking Soda On The Stained Area

The next step is to sprinkle baking soda on the area of the dog pee. Rub the baking soda into the carpet with your fingers so that it can get deeper into the fibers. Let this sit for about 24 hours if possible.

Since baking soda has alkaline characteristics, it helps to further neutralize the smell of urine and vinegar. It also has very volatile molecules which bind to the carpet's surface and neutralize the smell without leaving a smell of its own or any unpleasant residue.

The baking soda will remain there though, it isn’t absorbed by the carpet.

Step 4: Vacuum Up The Baking Soda

The last step is to vacuum up the baking soda from the carpet.

Once this is done, your carpet should be clean, and any sign of urine odor will be gone.

Conclusion

Even though it is a bit of a process, it is not at all impossible to get rid of dried dog pee stains and smells on your carpet if you have the correct equipment and products to do so.

The Unchained Urine Stain And Odor Remover is a game changer when it comes to removing carpet stains and smells. You should also keep it in mind when you are trying to figure out how to clean dog diarrhea from carpet or how to get dog vomit out of carpet, as it is great for both of these two.

While using our products to help remove urine stains and odor from carpets is a more effective method than natural methods, both can be used.
